Day 2 Recap!

We headed out yesterday morning around 9:30 am to get breakfast and head to the University. We discovered at breakfast two things:
1. They don't have regular coffee here, like the drip/filter kind. The lady looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for this.
2. When ordering a bagel, you must request lots of extra cream cheese because they hardly put any on it at all.

We continued on to the University and started our lectures. The first one was very interesting, but the second one not so much. After classes, we ventured into the cold/ hail/ sleet to get breakfast. Yes, it was hailing today. So much fun to play with though. We stopped at a small cafe and I had a huge bowl of tomato soup. It was very yummy.

Then it was on to the Canterbury Museum, which of course reminded me of my museum. They had a children's exhibit about bodies, it really reminded me of the Grossology exhibit in Gainesville. The museum was very interesting!

Next, it was time to venture out for a warmer jacket and hiking boots. I didn't bring these because I didn't think it was necessary... my entire group thought I was crazy for not having hiking books. Of course, it is the start of winter over here so everything was super expensive. Like $400 NZ for a North Face Down Jacket which I would never use in Florida, but it looked really warm. Anyways, I end up buying a fleece for underneath my shell jacket- it was 40% off and hat for $74 NZ. No too bad. Then I got some hiking books at a North Face Outlet for $61 NZ.

Ashley, you will especially be excited about this! They have kinder happy hippos here, instead they call them beuno. It is a hazelnut and milk chocolate filled wafer thing that is so heavenly. Don't worry I will be bringing some home for sure!!!

Anyways, leaving for breakfast and then 3 hours of lecture. Then to the Antartic Centre. Tonight, we might go to a bar that has margaritas and a bucking bull! Fun fun fun!!
