I Saw the Sun!!!!

So, the sun finally came out. I was coming to terms with myself that the weather was just going to be miserable for the rest of the trip- but it began two days ago when the sky was red at night. They say red at night, sailor's delight! It was beautiful and I got some of the best pictures you can ever imagine.

Right now, I am sitting in a luandromat and internet place- this is how much I love all of you want to talk to you and tell you what I am doing! :)

So two days ago, we left Mt. Cook for Te Anau which is near Queenstown (Adventure capital) and two hours from Milford Sound. We drove through the Southern Alps and it was absolutely breathtaking. We stopped in Cromwell for lunch and then headed to Te Anau where we stayed last night and where we are staying tonight. This accomodation is slightly nicer, but we all have our own rooms which are like 8 x 8 cubicles. Think RV Park style with added rooms. Still communal showers and boys and girls intermixed. Which is kind of awkard when walking to the shower. I lucked out with a double bed, so I was very happy about that. Last night, a few girls went to town for dinner at an Italian Restaurant and I had New Zealand Pinot Noir. It was great! We went to the bar after and I hung out with the teachers. It was fun and they got drunk.

This morning, we left at 7 am for Milford Sound. The weather was a bit cloudy at first, but then the sun came up and it was beautiful once again. It took us about 3 hours to get there because we made lots of stops. The entire time we were with Taiwanese tourists, which was really funny because they take pictures of everything. I got some great pictures and we finally boarded the boat at 11 am. The fiords were beautiful and we saw dolphins, seals, and lots of waterfalls. It's pretty amazing how this land was shaped, with the fiords shooting straight up, some 14 km high.
Google "Milford Sound" for pictures! Also, scroll down and follow my map too.

Tomorrow we are on to Queenstown... I might just have to bungi jump or sky-dive! Also on my list is a few wineries, the gondola, and maybe horseback riding. We have a whole day free in Queenstown so that should be fun! We stay in Queenstown for two nights and then on to Fox Glacier.

I'm having a great time so far and it has really been an experience of a lifetime so far. I hope all of you had a fabulous memorial day!

I'm going to head on to the supermarket to buy something for dinner.

Love,
Allison

  1. Allison, I went to a Milford Sound website as you suggested to see what it looked like, and I have been following you on the map. Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

  3. Tral!!! I'm so glad the weather got better. How was the grocery store? I hope you got something good to eat.

So when you say the showers are intermixed...does that mean boys and girls are showering together? That would DEFINITELY be strange Hopefully you just mean the main entrance!

I know what you mean about being cold. It was so beautiful in Montreal and as soon as we arrived in Quebec, the temperatre DROPPED. When we were walking around last night it was 0 celcius!!!! Hopefully it will be warmer today!!
